Concrete Exodus: Borneo Mission
Our Aim is create a frontier eco village which allows the ultimate combination of traditional indigenous lifestyle with modern day development. Concrete Exodus aims to develop this community is a way that is neutral in its impacts to the surrounding environment while still achieving economic use of traditional indigenous lands.
Sustainable Building and Development
Concrete Exodus will use the combination of traditional indigenous building techniques with modern day innovations to create a world leading community biosphere. Theres some great materials being created from recycled plastics/metals/re-usable materials and we aim to maximise the usage of these modern day techniques while incorporating them with traditional practises of using organic materials collected from the land. We aim to collect rubbish from local communities and environments, then recycle it into the building products we can use for the eco village development. It would create a fantastic cycle that would be surely supported by the community and government alike and hopefully set a bench mark for future developments within Indigenous lands.
Obvious choices such as bamboo, come first to thought and it would also be good product to potentially farm at a minor scale to ensure that future buildings we create are actually created from a sustainable source. This should also reduce costs to create new buildings along the way while establishing a precedent to alternatives to Palm Plantations.
Sustainable Farming and Aquaculture
A model where edible gardens are created for food sources which can be used to feed local community’s and add sustainable economic growth for the property. We can further this production to create organic fertilisers from Leaf and Organic waste products which can be used a domestic and possible international trade.
Having this facility within the community allows a market to develop by selling organic fertilisers at the local market along with the vegetables/fruit grown on the property. There could also be a market for international shipping as we would market it as a fertiliser that is reducing the impacts of Palm Oil Creation by establishing other options for local communities of Borneo.
As an Alternative to Palm oil there is also the ability to grow Date palms but not in the same extent as an actual Palm plantation but rather incorporating the farming process into the village itself and establishing the plants into the ecosystems of the villages gardens/veggie gardens. They have a good market value and are relatively good production for individual plants. It could be an additional farming/economic gain to the property while not destroying native jungle habitat.
Aquaculture is an achievable project with a series of aquaculture tanks. The major large fish tank can over flow into smaller tanks which will be filled with filter feeding and bottom feeding species which actually extract the pollutants/organic matter created by the main fish tank. This system if created perfectly can return the water back into the river system after being filtered through a series of natural filtration systems and wetland habitat tanks. Essentially re-creating a natural water course within the property to become a sustainable food source for the local region.
Education Facility and Community Research Centre
There are so many people coming out of university who have amazing degree’s and skills but no opportunities to continue their work. So Concrete Exodus aims to establish a research centre that focusses on Eco living and provides a base-camp for professionals and universities to come and study from. This can could open up the education section for the local community and provide needed data collection and expertise for the future of this project and assist in gathering essencial environmental/social/economic data for the future development of Concrete Exodus.
Therefore we are wanting to offer universities the opportunity to send over students to volunteer at the facility and educate the locals on conservation practices and partake in research projects.
We will pursue protection grants and complete research for any species there that are under threat of becoming endangered or are currently considered threatened within the Borneo region with particular focus on any that are present within our property and engage the community in conservation projects to futher the connection between indigenous people of Borneo and the global research community.
Power and Electricity Systems
We aim to run the centre 100% sustainably this is more then achievable in this modern day and really something we want to innovate and develop while we are establishing this community by using a combination of all renewable technologies that are most appropriate to this particular ecosystem and geographic location.
There are a range of human generated technologies to create power for the community centre and lands available on the market and we aim to incorporate these developments as much as possible into the design of the ecocentre.
As we are going to install aquaculture facilities it would make sense to create a turbine system between the tanks that essentially powers the filtration system of the facility and add to the community centres power grid.
Any carbon and emissions that have been created by the development of the centre will be carbon offset through the use of native forest revegitation.
Virtual Reality Modelling: A walk through Concrete Exodus.......
At Concrete Exodus we will provide Governments, Local community's and stakeholder's the opportunity to walk through the new ecovillage prior to it's establishment through the use of Virtual reality and computer modelling technology.
This will allow us to demonstrate the practicality, development, structure and general design of the property before any changes are made to the natural environment. In doing so we are able to model the eco centre and the associated developments in a manner that has minimal impacts on the native environment as any potencial impacts can be elimainated through computer modeling and data collection prior to development.
